FELT TRICK OR TREAT BAGS

These are actually mini felt tote bags.

I'll probably  make them for Halloween, Christmas (secret Santa or to hang on the tree), or even for birthday party favors. Felt comes in so many colors, it can be adapted to just about any situation.

Finished size: 5 ½ x 5 ½

Materials:

1 sheet of felt (9 x 12) or cut size that you want from yardage

2 pieces of ribbon (8 inches each)

Pinking shears if you have them.

To decorate:
Follow machine embroidery instructions or however you want to decorate.

  1. Measure ¼” from each edge of felt square. Mark and then cut on the line with pinking shears.
  2. Fold sheet in half and find the middle of the half. Mark for embroidery or decorate in that spot.
  3. After embroidery was finished, I marked the felt 2” from each side. Then I placed ribbon one inch from the edge of that mark (on inside). Fold the back up and mark where matching ribbon will be placed.
  4. Sew ½ inch seam across the top of front and then across the top of the back to secure ribbon.
  5. Match outside edges and sew on marked front of felt to join front and back.
  6. Cut excess off past the sew lines with a pinking shears.
I save the cut off part for other projects like hair clippies, needle books, or ornaments. I also used scraps of ribbon and sewed small scraps of stabilizer together so it is a pretty thrifty project.
